Powerscourt

Many moons ago I worked part time in the Avoca shop at Powerscourt Gardens in Wicklow. It was a lovely place to work, but I spent waaay too much of my meagre paycheque on lovely stuff from the shop, cake food from the café and... ice cream.

My sister worked there at the same time, you see, and all staff members had free access to the amazing Gardens. Every lunch break Cáit and I would grab an ice cream from the kiosk and 'do a lap' of the gardens, - reasoning that by walking as we were munching we were cancelling out the calories. I can't remember exactly how long I worked there, but I do recall it being Christmassy at one point and Summery at another. Actually, I know for sure I worked there in the Summertime because I have very strong (not particularly pleasant) recollections of filling out hundreds of annoying tax-back forms for busloads of American tourists.

I can vouch therefore, that the gardens are beautiful at any time of year, but they were even more stunning than I remembered when I was there again last Saturday for a meetup with members of the Irish Parenting Bloggers group - which was very pleasant indeed.

This was the first time I'd brought the girls here. In fact I hadn't been into the gardens since before they were born - even though it's only a ten-minute drive from my house. They loved it. And why wouldn't they? It's like a vast fairytale playground complete with it's very own Rapunzel tower (views from the top are incredible!).

Powerscourt Gardens have even been voted No. 3 Best Garden in the WORLD recently by National Geographic. It's well deserved. I feel very lucky to have all this beauty on my doorstep and I'm sure I'll be back again soon.

Click HERE for opening hours and HERE for entry fees. I promise it's worth a visit.

Disclosure: I was given free entry to the gardens for the purpose of review. All opinions are my own and I was not paid to give them.
